10.5 iPad Pro

Finally, Apple has fixed one aspect of the 9.7-inch Pro that drew complaints from the professional crowd last year: the 10.5-inch Pro comes with 4GB of RAM, same as the 12.9-inch version. RAM doesn’t directly speed up iDevices, at least not like it does in regular computers, but it helps keep things running smoothly by allowing more tabs and apps to stay loaded in memory at once before Apple begins purging them. There are also signs that iOS 11’s multitasking is slightly more versatile on iPads with 4GB of RAM, allowing as many as three active apps and a picture-in-picture window onscreen at once.

If you compare a 9.7” and 10.5” iPad Pro side-by-side, the increase in screen size doesn’t look like a big difference, but everything feels more spacious when you’re holding the new iPad. And because a lot of small-iPad usage tends to happen in portrait as you’re focusing on content, there’s the illusion that your hands are holding a device with no bezels. Once again, it’s hard to describe, and it’s not nearly as impressive when the iPad is docked on a Smart Keyboard in landscape mode, but it feels nicer than the old 9.7” model.

More RAM, great screen, and better keyboard will all shine… once iOS 11 is out…..

“We’re all about discoverability,” said one of the friendly employees offering greetings and guidance. The store’s strategy is to mine Amazon’s massive online archives of reader data to steer the most popular books to shoppers. The circularity of this crème-de-la-crème process provides the sales leverage. The store stocks only 3,000 of the most popular, data-driven titles — for instance, a history best seller that’s been judged a good read by 2,796 previous readers, who gave it a 4.8 approval rating on a scale of 5. Collectively, the store boasts, its stock has received 1.7 million 5-star reviews from Amazon.com customers.

“It’s weird — they keep talking about ‘discovery,’ but how do you discover something different in a process that channels people into a smaller and smaller focus?” asks Chris Doeblin, owner of the independent Book Culture store and two others in the city.

“I think the internet is broken,” he says. He has believed this for a few years, actually. But things are getting worse. “And it’s a lot more obvious to a lot of people that it’s broken.”

People are using Facebook to showcase suicides, beatings and murder, in real time. Twitter is a hive of trolling and abuse that it seems unable to stop. Fake news, whether created for ideology or profit, runs rampant. Four out of 10 adult internet users said in a Pew survey that they had been harassed online. And that was before the presidential campaign heated up last year.

“I thought once everybody could speak freely and exchange information and ideas, the world is automatically going to be a better place,” Mr. Williams says. “I was wrong about that.”
